Portable Appliance Testing

What is PAT Testing?

PAT Testing is the commonly used name for the process of ensuring that portable electrical appliances used in the work place are safe and free from any fault that may cause harm to the user.

Appliances are, for example, fridges, microwaves, computer monitors, kettles, vacuum cleaners, electric heaters, hand drills, mobile phone chargers, photocopiers, laptop computers, extension leads.

What does the law require?

There is a legal responsibility on businesses, shops, clubs, churches and other places where employees and the public have access, to ensure the safety of all portable electrical appliances.
